Heavy Rain has been worked on since 2006 and it has come a long way since then. It is developed by the same people who brought the thriller game, Indigo Prophecy (also known as Fahrenheit). It plays almost as the same as their first title, as in you’re playing an interactive movie.

Heavy Rain is a mature game without any of the science fiction bells and whistles. It is very real, dark and psychological and will make you pounder on what choice your character should make. Each of the choices will effect how the story unfolds. The focus point of the story is what you will do to save someone that you love.

There are four playable characters in Heavy Rain who are all looking for the serial killer known as the Origami Killer. An architect named Ethan Mars, a journalist named Madison Paige, an FBI profiler named Norman Jayden and a retired PI names Scott Shelby and all will be voiced in ten different languages.

The game play and control scheme are both unique. The trigger button will move your character, the right analog will determine how fast or slow the character moves while the left analog will controller the character’s head. You can even bring up a selection of thoughts with L1 that, if timed right, will have your character saying the right thing. On the other side, if you select the wrong thing to say, you will see that awkward moment play out.

Action scenes play out in an Indio Prophecy or God of War like manner. There will be a series of buttons that you are required to press in a short amount of time. Press the button at the wrong time, a negative action may occur.

If you character dies, the game will then switch over to one of the remaining three characters. Your death will have an effect on the story when it switches over. If all four characters die, it is the end of the game and you will be shown a conclusion scene.

This game is set up to be a power house, both psychological and visual. Using PhysX by nVidia and with a combination of virtual actors playing their characters, not only will you get a great story, but to witness the visual details of it should make you feel like your watching a movie with real proper actors.
